When you are in school and still figuring out who you want to be when you “grow up”, you have huge ambitions. It is important to find the right company where you can focus that energy into a career where the sky is the limit and your strength and drive can take you as far as you want to go .Even better, if you can do a job that you love, you are more likely to be successful - and that's what I've found at Atos Origin.
It really isn’t what I thought it would be like. Think big company and you may have the idea that it's rigid, highly structured, military even. But that couldn't be further from the truth. In the ten years I've been with Atos Origin it continues to amaze me - the genuine entrepreneurial spirit, team ethos, sense of family transparency, openness. I've seen people leave Atos Origin in that time and I've seen a lot come back too, realizing that we have flexibility and the willingness to share and support each other (Atos Origin supported me getting my Masters degree and Project Management qualification). Mentors and managers here are exceptional - and I'm not just saying that because I am one! They help everyone to optimize every experience and offer opportunities that other consultancies just don’t.
I started as a developer, becoming a team leader and now a manager. I've worked on some great projects with some major high profile companies- last year on business process modelling and optimization, putting together tools to enable them to do things in a best in class manner, driving down costs, having a huge impact on their bottom line and helping them to win awards for their improved levels of service. I was also working with Global HR in the same company on managing employee evaluation systems. We were able to reduce their costs by over 90% so our work will pay for itself in less than a month. That kind of positive impact is what really excites me. We do get closer to clients to understand their drivers building long-term relationships, which enables us to influence deeper and wider.
I've just returned from China where I'd been for 2 weeks and its fascinating to see how different people interact. Learning about new cultures, the way people work and their ambitions is fascinating and it opens your eyes to new possibilities. So much so that I am starting to take baby steps to learn Mandarin. It's very difficult but my goal is to work with the Beijing Olympic IT support team which we sponsor- and if that doesn’t work, I can always go for London in 2012 as I can speak the language - and know how to order a beer!
