Vetco Gray decided that rather than implementing a new ERP system they would maintain their current legacy system. They wanted to enhance the current system and deliver all the functionality the company requires while ensuring no business interruptions. They also wanted to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of mainframe processing through predictable and manageable support costs.
Business Challenges
Alstom Power, part of the same company, outsourced its processing to Atos Origin early in 2002 and recommended that Vetco Gray do the same. The contract was soon signed and the Vetco Gray computing environment was successfully migrated to Atos Origin's data center in Arlington, Texas. We upgraded the operating system software to version 2.9 of OS/390 and moved to CICS/TS for added application functionality. We also installed monitoring and operational software tools to provide Vetco Gray with higher service levels.
The result was the smooth transition of the mainframe processing to the Atos Origin data center with no business interruptions and within the timeframe. There have been reduced mainframe processing costs in comparison to internal mainframe processing with the parent company and we have also provided production control services.
