Respect for the environment and maximizing the preservation of the environment are important concerns for Atos Origin. At a corporate level Atos Origin is responsible for ensuring that the whole company takes actions to maintain good standards of environmental management relevant in our businesses and that we meet or exceed all regulatory and legislative requirements. As part of this approach we aim to ensure that:

• Processes are in place to actively improve the efficiency with which finite resources (such as energy, water, raw materials) are used.
• Appropriate management, operational and technical controls are in place to minimize the release of harmful emissions to the environment.
• Appropriate measures are in place to improve the environmental performance of products and services when in use by the end user
• Innovative developments in products and services that offer environmental and social benefits are supported.

 
Atos Origin has also continued to work with many clients to develop systems that are themselves environmentally beneficial. These include developing:

• Labeling systems – to guarantee food quality and prevent health risks.
• Transport systems – to plan journeys and minimize distribution or travel times.
• Monitoring systems – to optimize power generation and distribution.
• Document storage systems – to minimize paper use.

Within the United Kingdom, Atos Origin developed and hosts Transport Direct, www.transportdirect.info, a public website for the UK Department for Transport. Transport Direct enables travelers in Great Britain to plan their journeys more successfully. It provides a comprehensive online portal - effectively a one-stop shop - that will include access to a journey planner for all forms of transport (air, car, train, tram, tube, taxi, bus, coach, ferry and any mix of these), maps, real-time information (such as train delays) and facilitated ticket purchase. Recently we have added the facility to provide details of the CO2 emissions for the journey selected enabling users to take that into consideration when selecting their mode of travel.

We also continue to monitor and take advantage of new technologies. For example, for our new Atos™ Workplace Solutions offering we have worked closely with Intel since 2005. We performed extensive testing on Intel ® Active Management Technology, a key component of Intel vPro technology, and this has been incorporated into Atos™ Workplace Solutions allowing more efficient performance enhancement, including power efficiency and PC noise reduction. Other such examples include our Data Center approach whereby we are using cleverer and more efficient technology to offer solutions that save customers money and also save energy resources and the need for large and numerous physical locations.
